FSLA and Social Mobility Foundation launch flagship work placement programme Print E-mail

The first two FSLA/SMF work placement students completed their two week placement in July 2009. Hafsa Patel and Yvonne Dang, both 17, and of London, were selected from 500 SMF students to take part in the flag-ship scheme launched this year.

The students were the only two SMF students to spend time with more than one type of organisation as part of their placement. The diversity of FSLA corporate members made this possible. Yvonne and Hafsa spent time at the Commercial Court with Mr Justice Blair and Mr Justice Andrew Smith, Clifford Chance, Deutsche Bank, Outer Temple Chambers and 3 Verulum Buildings.

The SMF’s core objective is to provide a range of supports for bright, less privileged A Level students to enable them to realise their potential, by progressing to good universities and into top professions and businesses. The SMF identify these students in Year 12, and provide them with summer internships in the career of their choice, and can match them with an e-mentor already in that profession. In addition, they provide a programme of advice to support them through the university application process.

FSLA and the SMF plan to make the scheme annual and also increase the number of students taken on. It is hoped that other FSLA corporate members will take part.

If you or your organisation are interested in being involved, please contact a member of the FSLA Executive Committee.
