The objects of the Financial Services Lawyers Association are to:
- provide a forum for open exchanges of views on topical issues in financial services law, regulation and related areas
- facilitate the dissemination of knowledge and ideas
- further members' education and training
- encourage the involvement of students, graduates, trainees, pupils and junior lawyers
- foster co-operation between the various financial services stakeholders, including practitioners, academics, industry, regulators and government.

The association's principal activities include:
- a programme of evening meetings with guest speakers
- the web-based publication of a list of practitioner members
- the web-based publication of papers and newsletters
- the establishment of working groups
- occasional seminars, workshops and social events.
